PRIEST RIVER, Idaho - The Washington State University women's rowing team completed its first regatta of the fall season Saturday at the Head of the Pend Oreille. The Cougars raced two varsity eights and four varsity fours and posted the top women's time of the day.
The highlight of the day was Washington State's second varsity eight, which finished the five-kilometer race in the fastest time of any women's boats at the regatta with a time of 19 minutes (19:00). The first varsity eight finished in a time of 19:35. Both Washington State crews notched faster times than the lone other women's collegiate team, Gonzaga, whose top boat clocked a time of 19:40, five seconds slower than WSU's varsity eight.
Later in the day, Washington State raced four varsity fours, which took the top four spots in their respective class (women's fours). The first varsity four completed the course with a time of 20:26, followed closely by the fourth varsity four in 20:32, the second varsity four in 20:43, and the third varsity four in 21:26.
Washington State returns to the water for fall competition, Saturday, Oct. 22 for the Head of the Spokane hosted by Gonzaga in Spokane.
