CORVALLIS, Ore. - Andrew Checketts and Chris Pine held Washington State batters in check and their Oregon State teammates collected 24 hits to sweep a doubleheader from the Cougars, 7-2 and 18-6, Saturday at Coleman Field.

The losses stretched WSU's losing streak to a record equaling 12 games. Dave Wheeler (1-5) and Todd Belitz (0-5) took the losses for WSU (2-26). Checketts (4-2) worked into the seventh inning of the first game and Pine (3-2) went 5.1 innings for the Beavers (19-6-1) in the nightcap as OSU picked up its third Pac-10 North win in as many games.

WSU managed just four hits off Checketts in the opener, two of them by Curtis Robinson. WSU, trailing 3-0 going into the fourth inning, struck for two runs with the help of Jesse Hoorelbeke's run-scoring double and an error that allowed Randall to score from third base with two out.

The Beavers then answered with a four-run explosion in their half of the inning, collecting six of their eight hits. Ben Bertrand had a two-run single, while Mike Leone and Matt Bailie each singled home a run.

OSU overcame WSU's early 1-0 lead by scoring 10 times in the second inning of game two. The Beavers took advantage of four walks, a wild pitch and some heavy duty hitting that included three-run home runs from Ryan Lipe and Troy Schader. Ryan McDonald also had a two-run single in the inning. Ryan McDonald's grand slam home run in the third accounted for four more Beaver runs as they stretched their advantage to 14-2 after three innings.

Belitz had control problems from the start, walking three in the first inning and four more in the second frame before giving way to Kyle Poffenroth. Poffenroth worked four innings for WSU before Les McTavish entered the game in the sixth and finished up for the Cougars.

The Cougars managed 10 hits off Pine and three OSU relief pitchers, but they were well scattered over the nine innings. Justin Mentink's first home run of the year gave the Cougars a brief 1-0 lead in the second before OSU brought out the heavy guns.

WSU kept pecking away at the Beavers, adding single tallies in the third, fourth and fifth innings, then two final runs in the seventh.

Casey Kelley drew a bases loaded walk off Pine in the third inning to account for WSU's second run. In the fourth inning Jason singled home WSU's third run, while Jesse Hoorelbeke singled home a run in the sixth. WSU's final two runs came home on Steve Curran's two-out double to left field in the seventh.

The two teams conclude their four-game weekend series Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. single contest.
