COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Washington State's John Welsh captured medalist honors to pace the Cougar men to a first-place finish at the Inland Empire Cross Country Classic in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho Saturday.

Welsh was the only runner to break the 19-minute mark, clocking in at 18:59. Dan Boniface and Kyle Barker finished fourth and fifth in 19:57 and 20:01, respectively. Loren Childers also cracked the top-ten with a seventh-place finish in 20:24.

The Cougar men finished with 30 team points to edge Idaho's 31 for the win. Gonzaga rounded out the field in third with 66 points.

The WSU women placed four runners in the top-ten, but were still eclipsed by Idaho. The Vandals swept the top-three spots en route to a victorious 19 team points. WSU's 37 points easily bested Gonzaga's third-place 71 points.

Alishia Booterbaugh led the Cougars in 14:51, placing fourth. Idaho's Zsanett Teveli took individual honors with a time of 14:23.
