RIVALRY WEEK: The Cougars host the Huskies, Saturday in a battle of teams at the bottom of the Pac-10 standings ... WSU has lost eight straight and is tenth in the Pac-10 at 1-14 ... UW has dropped six straight and is ninth in the conference at 3-12 ... The Huskies rallied from 18 points down to beat the Cougars, 56-55 in Seattle, February 6 ... Washington has won nine straight in the series ... WSU's last win was 72-67, February 25, 1995 in Pullman.

WASHINGTON PREVIEW: Megan Franza and Loree Payne rank second and fourth in the Pac-10 in scoring, averaging 17.4 and 16.8 points per game, respectively ... In the season's first meeting, WSU held the duo to 21 points combined ... Julia Gray, who hit the game-winning free throw in the win over the Cougars, is sixth in the Pac-10 with 2.15 steals per game and ninth with 3.33 assists per game ... Payne is third in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage at .820 and Franza is tied for ninth in three-point shooting percentage (.333).

COUGAR UPDATE: Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) became the 18th player in WSU history to score 800 points in her career with 22 at Washington, February 6 and continues to lead Washington State in scoring, averaging 13.6 points per game...Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alen,) is the only other Cougar averaging double figure scoring at 11.6 ppg and also eclipsed 800 points (vs. Oregon, 2/19) ... Dietel leads WSU with 5.3 rebounds per game ... Kerns leads the Cougars with 4.32 assists per game.

CAREER RANKINGS: Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) needs just eight points to become the 14th player in WSU history to score 900 in her career ... Dietel is also eighth in WSU history with 93 career three-pointers ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) is fourth in career three-pointers (106), fifth in career assists (339), ninth in career free throws (226) and tied for 17th in career points (822) ... Kerns became the 19th player to eclipse the 800 point mark in her WSU career with 14 versus Oregon, February 17 ... WSU is third in the Pac-10, shooting .356 from three-point range ... The Cougars are fourth in both assist/turnover ration (.081), and three-pointers per game (4.72) and fifth in assists per game (14.80) ... In addition, the Cougars are shooting a league-leading .757 from the foul line in Pac-10 games ... The .938 (15-for-16) free throw percentage at Washington, February 6 by WSU is second highest for a team in the Pac-10 this season (minimum 10 attempts) and established a school record ... The Cougars also went 7-for-7 at the line at Arizona, February 12, marking the only time this season a Pac-10 school has been perfect from the charity stripe ... COACH: Jenny Przekwas is currently in her first year at WSU and her ninth overall. Her record in Pullman is 4-21 and her career mark is 137-120. She guided Saint Francis College (Penn.) to the last four NCAA Tournaments.

CALIFORNIA RECAP: WSU, the number free throw shooting team in the Pac-10, shot 13-for-23 from the foul line in its 65-59 loss at California, February 26 ... The Cougars missed three front end of >one-and-ones and were just 1-for-7 from the charity stripe in the last 8:02 ... Junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) led WSU with 15 points and freshman Jessica Ottmar (Silverdale, Wash.) recorded a season-high eight points.

STANFORD RECAP: Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) scored a season-high 30 points and added ten rebounds for her third double-double of the season in a 78-73 loss at Stanford, February 24 ... The 30 points were one shy of Dietel's career-high ... Junior Katie Nyseth (Cheshire, Ore.) dished a career-high ten assists for the Cougars, who fell to 0-30 all-time versus the Cardinal.

OREGON STATE RECAP: The Beavers rallied from a 14-point second half deficit to post a 65-62 win over WSU, February 19 in Pullman ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) led the Cougars with 20 points while three others added 10 each ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) recorded her career-high 12 assists.

OREGON RECAP: Despite a combined 30 points from seniors Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) and Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), WSU fell, 73-68 to the Ducks, February 17 in Pullman ... With her effort, Kerns became the 19th player in Cougar history to score 800 points while Dietel moved into 15th all-time at WSU.

ARIZONA RECAP: The 16th-ranked Wildcats used a 25-11 run at the end of the first half and cruised to an 81-52 win over Washington State, February 12 ... Junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) and senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) each had eight points for the Cougars ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) and freshman Kelley Berglund (Port Angeles, Wash.) each added seven rebounds for WSU.

ARIZONA STATE RECAP: The Sun Devils completed a season sweep with a 73-53 victory, February 10 ... ASU broke open a two-point game with a 9-2 run to start the second half and held Washington State to 27 percent shooting from the floor in the second half ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) led the Cougars with 14 points.

WASHINGTON RECAP: The Huskies overcame an 18-point first half deficit to post their ninth straight win over the Cougars, 56-55 in Seattle, February 6 ... The winning point came on a Julia Gray's free throw with 1:44 left ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) scored 15 of her game-high 22 points in the first half and added ten rebounds for her second double-double in three games ... She also became the 18th player in WSU history to score 800 points in her career ... The Cougars led 52-48 with 6:49 to play, but could only manage three free throws by Dietel the rest of the way and lost for the seventh consecutive time to Washington in Seattle ... WSU connected on 15-of-16 free throws in the game to establish a single-game school record .938 day at the line.

STANFORD RECAP: Stanford ran its record to 29-0 all-time versus the WSU with an 83-67 win in Pullman, January 29 ... Lauren St. Clair led the 24th-ranked Cardinal with a game-high 22 points, including 17 in the first half ... WSU was led by junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.), who tallied 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

CALIFORNIA RECAP: The Cougars snapped a pair of streaks with their 72-65 win over California, January 27 in Pullman ... Prior to the win, the Cougars had lost eight straight games overall and seven consecutive Pac-10 games dating back to last season ... Four players scored in double figures in the win over the Golden Bears led by senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), who tallied a game-high 19 points ... Kerns connected on 5-of-6 three-pointers ... Her .833 shooting percentage from beyond the arc tied a school record for a single game (minimum five attempts) ... Kerns also dished out six assists ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) recorded the first double-double of the season for the Cougars with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

OREGON RECAP: The Ducks used a 19-3 run to begin the second half and erase a five-point deficit to post a 77-65 win at Eugene, January 22 ... The win was the 19th straight home victory for Oregon, the sixth longest active streak in the nation ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) led WSU with 20 points and senior Cathy McNeely (Philomath, Ore.) tallied 13 off the bench including a three-point play with one second left in the first half to extend the Cougars' advantage to 33-28 at intermission.

OREGON STATE RECAP: The Beavers defeated the Cougars, 72-52 on the strength of a 21-4 to begin the game and a 19-3 spurt to start the second half in Corvallis, January 20 ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) led WSU with 13 points.

ARIZONA STATE RECAP: For the second straight game, WSU got off to a good start as it led 10-2 behind senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) who scored the first 10 Cougar points and had 17 of her game-high 20 in the first half ... However, poor shooting (29 percent in the second half) helped the Sun Devils come from behind for a 64-54 win in Pullman, January 15.

ARIZONA RECAP: WSU opened the game with a 17-4 run, but could not hold off the nationally ranked Wildcats, who clawed back for an 83-68 win in Pullman, January 13 ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) led all scorers with 23 points and junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) added 17 points in the losing effort.

UCLA RECAP: The Bruins scored the first 16 points of the game and held the Cougars scoreless for the opening 8:19 on their way to an 87-60 win, January 9 in Los Angeles ... Juniors Victoria Harrod (Nepean, Ontario) and Joanna Smith (North Vancouver, B.C.) each recorded season high point totals for WSU with 14 and 11, respectively.

USC RECAP: The Jenny Przekwas era in Pac-10 play began on a down note when the Cougars lost 71-61 at USC, January 7 ... WSU was held to 19 points in the first half and trailed by 15 at intermission before mounting a second half rally ... The Cougars closed to within seven on two occasions, the latter at 61-54 with 2:43 to play ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) recorded 19 of her career-high 25 points in the second half.

SAINT MARY'S RECAP: Freshman Kelley Berglund (Port Angeles, Wash.) registered a season-high 14 points in an 83-59 loss to the Gaels, December 30 in the final non-conference game of the season for the Cougars ... Junior Katie Nyseth (Cheshire, Ore.) added a season-high 11 points for WSU which suffered its worst home loss to a non-conference opponent since a 93-66 setback to Portland State, January, 19, 1980.

UC-SANTA BARBARA RECAP: Five Cougars scored in double figures, but it was not enough, as WSU fell to the 22nd ranked Gauchos, 89-73, December 28 ... Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) led the Cougs with 14 points while junior Jessica Collins (Reno, Nev.) recorded a career-high 13 in only her second career start ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) and sophomore Romie De Anda (El Paso, Texas) scored 10 each ... The Cougars trailed by as many as 18 in the second half before a 21-9 run closed WSU to within 67-61 with 6:46 remaining in the game before the Gauchos pulled away.

BOWLING GREEN RECAP: Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) scored 19 of her 23 points in the second half to lead WSU to a 79-71 victory in Bowling Green, December 20 ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) tallied 20 points and junior Jessica Collins (Reno, Nev.) added a career high 12 points ... Collins also had a career high four steals in her first career start ... Junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) contributed a career-high 11 rebounds ... WSU led 59-58 with 6:20 to play before converting 13-of-15 free throws down the stretch to pull away for the win.

TOLEDO RECAP: WSU dropped its third straight with a 79-59 setback at Toledo, December 19 ... Junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) and senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) scored 13 and 11 points, respectively ... Freshman Kelley Berglund (Port Angeles, Wash.) made her first collegiate start and contributed eight points and a season-high 11 rebounds.

IDAHO RECAP: Idaho closed the game with an 18-1 run over the final 8:57 to post its third straight win in the series, 68-45, December 12 ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) led the Cougars with 12 points and senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) added 11 points ... The margin of defeat was the largest for WSU in a non-conference road game since a 76-51 setback at Texas, Jan. 2, 1993 ... The 45 points were the fewest scored by the Cougs in a non-conference game since a 47-41 loss to Boise State in Pullman, Dec. 14, 1984.

GONZAGA RECAP: The Bulldogs used an 18-2 run late in the second half to pull away from the Cougars and captue an 82-66 victory December 8, Gonzaga's second win in the series in 17 all-time meetings ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) registered a team-high 17 points for the Cougars and senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) and sophomore Romie De Anda (El Paso, Texas) each added a dozen points for WSU.

EASTERN WASHINGTON RECAP: Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) capped a 20-point performance with an 18-foot jump shots with five seconds remaining to lift the Cougs to a 61-60 win over Eastern Washington, December 4 ... Dietel's shot finished a 12-2 run that rallied WSU >from a 58-49 deficit in the final 3:20 ... Senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) added 18 points.

COORS CLASSIC RECAP: WSU opened the tournament in Boulder, Colo. with a 68-65 loss vs. Western Michigan, November 26 despite sophomore Romie De Anda's (El Paso, Texas) career high 19 points and seven rebounds ... The Cougars captured the consolation championship the next night with a 66-44 win over Wright State ... The 44 points were the fewest given up by WSU since an 88-37 victory over Gonzaga to open the 1991-92 season ... WSU committed only five turnovers while forcing 22 Raider miscues...Senior Alke Dietel (Halle, Germany) followed a 14-point, seven rebound performance against Western Michigan with 15 and eight to earn all-tournament honors ... The win was the first at WSU for head coach Jenny Przkewas.

UTAH RECAP: The Cougars were held to their lowest point total in a season opener since a 62-49 loss to Wisconsin-Green Bay at the outset of the 1988-89 campaign in the 65-49 loss at Utah, November 20 ... Junior Yvonne Volkman (Richland, Wash.) led WSU with 14 points and sophomore Romie De Anda (El Paso, Texas) recorded career highs in minutes (36) and added 11 points and six rebounds.
