INDIANAPOLIS – Washington State University women’s rowing sophomore Nicole Hare has been named to the Pac-12 All-Conference and Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-West Region First Teams, the organizations announced this week.

Hare is in her second season with the Cougars, having rowed with the varsity eight crew in both her freshman and sophomore seasons. Last season, Hare’s varsity eight crew placed 14th at the NCAA Championships as WSU finished 14th as a team. This season the Cougars are ranked 14th in the country as they head into the NCAA Championships this week.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Hare becomes the 11th Cougar to receive CRCA All-West Region First Team honors for the 19th time and is now eligible for CRCA All-America Accolades, which will be announced following the NCAA Championships. WSU has had a total of 35 rowers earn all-conference accolades dating back to 1988, while at least one WSU rower has been named to the all-conference team in each of the last 20 seasons.

Ten of the 11 first team and five of the eight second team CRCA west region honorees came from Pac-12 schools, led by Washington with five (three first team, two second team). Stanford had four honorees (three first team, once second team), UCLA and USC each had two (one first team and one second team, respectively), while Oregon State had one selection on the first team.

In addition, Stanford head coach Yasmin Farooq was named both Pac-12 and CRCA West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Cardinal to their first Pac-12 Championship. Stanford is currently ranked second in the country heading into this week’s NCAA Championships. Stanford’s Anna Dawson was named Pac-12 Athlete of the Year, while Lauren Still of Oregon State was named the Pac-12’s Newcomer of the Year.

Members of the All-Conference rowing teams are based upon each institution’s finish in the varsity eight race at the Pac-12 Championships, which were held May 18 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The conference champion provides four members of the All-Conference team, the Pac-12 second-place crew provides three members and the third-place finisher provides two. All other participating conference crews receive one selection each.

To receive the CRCA honors, nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their schools' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.

The Cougars will begin competition at the NCAA Rowing Championships Friday, May 30. Competition runs through Sunday, June 1 at the Eagle Creek Park at Indianapolis, Ind.
