PRIEST RIVER, Idaho – The Washington State University women’s rowing team put together a strong showing at its first regatta of the fall season, the Head of the Pend Oreille, Saturday under cold and rainy conditions. The Cougars raced four varsity four boats and two varsity eight boats, notching the top times in each category.

“It was cold and windy and I thought our team did an excellent job in some challenging conditions,” LaRiviere said. “The community support was incredible. The town and surrounding area really comes together. They made us a beautiful dinner the night before and we can feel a lot of support when we’re in the neighborhood. It’s fun to be able to race at Idaho’s only regatta.”

In the varsity four flight, which featured rowers from the Cougars’ first and second varsity eight boats split into boats of four, WSU captured the top two and four of the top five spots amongst collegiate women. The B boat  (Teo Berindei, Ieva Adomaviciute, Morgan Cathrea, Elise Jones, Emily Boquet – coxswain) had the top time at 18:46.7, followed by the A boat (Mickey Aylard, Nicole Hare, Kerry Hassall, Jordan Watson, Rebecca Burns – coxswain) at 19:06.8. The Gonzaga A boat came in at 19:16.4, followed by WSU’s C boat (Carter Marks, Hannah deVos, Emily Starkel, Ashlee Bonahoom, Sarah Wu – coxswain) at 19:25.6 and the D boat (Isabella Watt, Savannah Davison, Mollie McCabe, Megan McDonald, Lauren Leahy – coxswain) at 19:34.3. Gonzaga’s B boat came in sixth with a time of 21:00.0

In the earlier race, the WSU varsity eight G boat (Kim Coon, Mallory Wordell, Alex Waddell, Gina Head, Erin Schuster, Carly Johnson, Ella Odland, Noël Christiansen, Julia Monroe – coxswain) took first with a time of 18:03.6, 25 seconds ahead of Gonzaga’s A boat in second at 18:28.8. The varsity eight C boat (Katelyn Maley, Hannah Jacobs, Lori VerMurlen, Chloe Rogers, Katrina Tarrant, Sarah Steger, Kellen Srb, Alyssa Rumann, Jayme Dailey – coxswain) finished fourth in a time of 18:53.0, followed by Gonzaga’s B crew at 19:13.3.
