PULLMAN, Wash. - WSU women's novice eight boat claimed its first victory in seven years against the University of Washington Huskies Saturday at Wawawai Landing along the Snake River.
The novice eight boat of coxswain Sarah Bankston, and rowers Erin Patterson, Kristin Fleischer, Lacey Malone, Crystal Hasey, Camille Park, Angie Schaeffer, Claire Magruder, and Katie Dahlgren rowed to a time of 6:53.5 over the Huskies time of 6:56.9.
The rest of Saturday's races would belong to UW though, as they were victorious in the second novice eight, varsity four, second varsity eight, and varsity eight competitions.
UW defeated WSU by six seconds, 7:31.8 to 7:38.5 in the second novice eight contest and prevailed 6:52.5 to 6:56.3 in the second varsity eight race.
In a battle of ranked women's varsity eight teams, No. 3 Washington defeated No. 20 Washington State 6:37.4 to 6:54.1.
UW's A boat prevailed with a time of 7:57.6 in the varsity four race, and it's B boat rowed to a second place finish at 8:02.6. In that race, WSU's A boat finished third with a time of 8:30.1 while the Cougars' B boat finished fourth at 8:48.0. UW won the second varsity four race with a time of 7:49.9, over WSU's 8:05.7.
The Cougars' next regatta is at Redwood Shores in Belmont, California April 21 against Michigan State, USC, Stanford and the University of Massachusetts.
