Cougars Blank Oregon 1-0 For Second Straight Road Victory

October 18, 1998

EUGENE, Ore. - The Washington State women's soccer squad won its second straight match on the road, defeating the Oregon Ducks 1-0 at Pape Field Sunday.

Freshman Natalie Kehl (Colbert, Wash.) received a pass from senior Kim Schelpf (Ocean, N.J) to nail a shot from five yards past Oregon goalkeeper Amanda Fox, scoring the only Cougar goal. The game-winner came 26 minutes into the first half.

The victory gave the Cougars (5-7-2 overall, 3-1-0 Pacific-10) a clean sweep of the Oregon schools this weekend, after defeating Oregon State 2-1 in double overtime Friday. Oregon (4-6-2 overall, 1-2-0 Pacific-10) lost for only the second time at home this season.

The Cougar defense held the Ducks to just four shots on goal through the first half and none in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Jorgensen (North Bend, Wash.) earned her fourth shutout this season.

"We played very well," said WSU Head Coach Dan Tobias. "Oregon is a very good team. They are athletic and played high pressure all over the field. We did a really good job of keeping the ball on the ground, playing our flanks and getting good chances. We feel good about the trip and being 2-0 on the weekend."

The match will be aired tape delayed on Fox Sports Northwest Monday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.

The Cougars continue Pacific-10 Conference action on the road this weekend at Arizona State Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. and at Arizona Sunday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m.
