Cougars Battle Through Double Overtime To Tie Pacific 2-2

September 6, 1998

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Washington State women's soccer squad battled to a 2-2 tie after two sudden death overtime periods with Pacific Sunday afternoon at Stagg Memorial Stadium.

The Cougars (1-1-1) scored quick back-to-back goals to post a 2-0 lead over the Tigers at the half. Sophomore Deka Dewitt (Auburn, Wash.) put WSU on the board in the 11th minute with a score assisted by freshman Lindsey Millspaugh (Kent, Wash.) and junior Christina Pallan (Las Vegas, Nev.).

One minute later, Pallan added another goal off an assist from freshman Natalie Kehl (Colbert, Wash.).

The Tigers (2-0-1) tied the match in the second half with two goals by senior Wendy Woolgar. The first goal came in the 69th minute off an assist from junior Jamee Lucchesi. Woolgar's second goal came in the 81st minute off an assist from senior Natalie Dorr.

"It was a tale of two halves. We played really well in the first half and they had most of the play in the second," said WSU head coach Dan Tobias.

Both teams were scoreless through two sudden death overtime periods. The Cougars came close to breaking the tie in the second overtime when senior Randi Glas (Grand Forks, N.D.) nailed a hard shot off the cross bar and Tiger goalkeeper Kim McCaskey saved a close attempt by Millspaugh.

WSU will continue non-conference play on the road when they travel to Logan, Utah to face Denver University Friday at 2 p.m. and Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 11 a.m.
