The Cougars defensive line will feature a number of players who will look to anchor the 3-4 defense in 2012. Redshirt sophomore Toni Pole returns after appearing in 10 games and making three starts last season and enters preseason camp atop the depth chart at nose tackle. Redshirt senior Adam Coerper (eight games, four starts) and senior Lenard Williams (10 games, six starts) each return after seeing extensive playing time throughout the 2011 season. Redshirt senior Steven Hoffart and redshirt junior Matthew Bock are two veterans who will add to the defensive line's depth.
Headlining the group of newcomers will be Xavier Cooper, who redshirted last season and later produced an outstanding spring in front of the new coaching staff. Junior college nose tackle Ioane Gauta, along with freshmen Destiny Vaeao and Robert Barber out of American Samoa each arrive looking to produce for the Cougars during their first season's in Pullman.
