WASHINGTON STATE TRACK & FIELD OPENS OUTDOOR SEASON
Washington State University track and field competitors have two meets this weekend to open the 2011 outdoor season...javelin, hammer and discus throwers along with high and intermediate hurdlers and steeplechasers rejoice in having their events contested...Cougars return to the USC Trojan Invitational Meet held at Loker Stadium/Cromwell Field on the USC campus...hammer throw events will be held March 18 at Mt. SAC but other events begin March 19 at 9 a.m...Community Colleges of Spokane hosts the Dusty Lane Open...competition begins at 9:30 a.m. March 19, at Spokane Falls Community College...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, when available.
COUGARS AT INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS
Six Cougars competed at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships, March 11-12 in College Station, Texas...Joe Abbott (junior, Reno, Nev.) finished seventh in the 800m with a time of 1:50.14 (ran prelim time of 1:48.80)...Abbott earns first-team All-America status...WSU's 4x400m relay squad of Greg Hornsby (sophomore, Moreno, Calif.), Brandon Dawson (junior, Fairfield, Calif.), Jacob Sealby (freshman, Wenatchee, Wash.) and Jeshua Anderson (senior, Woodland Hills, Calif.) ran a time of 3:12.01 which was 10th-best but team was disqualified when Hornsby stepped out of the lane after he pulled up with a hamstring injury (strained)...Holly Parent (sophomore, Victoria, BC) finished 15th in the women's high jump after clearing 5-8 3/4 (1.74m)...Parent earned second team All-America honors for her placing at the NCAA Championship.
