PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University head football coach Mike Price announced today the signing of three junior college transfers who will enroll at WSU next month, along with one recent high school graduate who also will enroll in January.

The three transfers are tight end Mark Baldwin from Hinds Junior College in Mississippi, punter Alan Cox from Snow College in Utah, and wide receiver Derreck Dillon from Oakland Community College in Michigan. Joining the junior college trio will be linebacker D.D. Acholonu, a graduate last spring from Inglemoor High near Seattle.

"With the Cox and Baldwin we are fulfilling specific needs for next year," Price said. "In the case of two fine athletes, Acholonu and Dillon, we are following up on previous commitments made when they are in high school."

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Inglemoor High, graduating in June, 1999.
WSU: Will enroll in January, 2000, and will participate in spring football drills.

BALDWIN, MARK TE 6-7 240 JR BRANDON, MISS.

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Brandon High, graduating in 1998...played two years of football for coach Dan Davis...three varsity letters in soccer as a goalie and a center on the Bulldog's basketball team.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Spent two years playing football at Hinds Junior College in Raymond, Miss...coached by Gene Murphy...during FRESHMAN season caught one pass, a 6-4 yard touchdown reception...as a SOPHOMORE (1999-2000) the Eagles finished second in the state, losing 33-21 in the junior college title game to Northwest CC...caught six passes for 96 yards and no touchdowns...Hinds competes in the MAC Junior College conference...the school has produced 24 NFL draft picks, including Marcus Springs and Leon Lett.
WSU: Will enroll in January, 2000, and will participate in spring football drills.
PERSONAL: Mark Baldwin...born 3-24-80...parents James and Monica Baldwin.

COX, ALAN PUNTER 6-3 200 JR MANTI, UTAH

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Manti High, graduating in 1995...during FRESHMAN year backup quarterback and a member of the varsity basketball and baseball teams...tabbed to the All-State team as a pitcher and pitched in the State title game (lost 2-0 in the ninth)...as a SOPHOMORE started for all three teams and again was an All-State pitcher...during JUNIOR year named to the All-Region first team and All-State second team as a quarterback...also the team's punter...as a SENIOR (1994-95) earned All-State honors in football, basketball and baseball...starting quarterback and free safety and handled punting and kicking chores...led the team to its best finish in school history after reaching the State semi-finals...threw for over 2,000 yards and gained over 3,500 yards in total offense...on defense averaged 12 tackles and had six interceptions...averaged 44.5 yards punting and set a State record with a 53-yard field goal...during basketball season averaged 15 points and 11 rebounds as team reached the State quarterfinals...also competed in track, where he was a member of the State qualifying 400 meter relay team that placed fourth...baseball team reached the State quarterfinals as he was named to the All-State team for the fourth time.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Spent two years at Snow College as a member of the Badger baseball and football teams...as a FRESHMAN (1998-99) named to the All-Western State Football League first team as a punter, averaging 43.4 yards on 46 punts...a starter on the baseball team, finishing 8-6 after an 0-4 start coming off the football campaign...as a SOPHOMORE (1999-2000) earned junior college All-America honors after averaging 43.7 yards on 38 punts, with a long of 69 yards...repeat first team pick on the All-WSFL team. WSU: Will enroll in January, 2000, and will participate in spring football drills.
PERSONAL: Alan Cox...six brothers and sisters...served a two-year mission in the New Jersey area after graduating from high school...will be married (Jenni) Dec. 18, 1999.

DILLON, DERRICK WR 6-3 205 SO PUYALLUP, WASH

HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Rogers High, where he was coached by Steve Gervais...earned three varsity letters each in football and basketball and one in track...during JUNIOR season named to the All-SPSL first team as a defensive back and to the second team as a receiver...league's defensive back of the year...named to the all-area team by the Tacoma News Tribune...SENIOR year named to the All-South Puget Sound League first team as a receiver and to the second team as a defensive back...all-area pick by the TNT and a second team Associated Press All-State selection, all as a receiver...also selected as a Northwest Nuggett and Western 100 by the TNT and received All-West recognition by Prep Star...caught 52 passes, including eight for touchdowns...received three votes in the Long Beach Press-Telegram's Best in the West poll...All-State second team selection by Newberry's Prep Report.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Attended Snow Junior College as a freshman (1998-99)...started the first game and suffered a separated shoulder, which limited his playing time for the season...ended the year with six catches...transferred to Oakland Community College in Waterford Mich., but did not play football for the Raiders last fall (1999)...graduating with a AA degree in December.
WSU: Will enroll in January, 2000, and will participate in spring football drills.
PERSONAL: Derrick Dillon...born 10-19-78 (21) in Tacoma.
