Kostina Leads the Pack of Cougars After First Round of West Regional

AUBURN, Wash. - Washington State All-American golfer Anastasia Kostina leads the young pack of Cougars after completing the first round of competition at the NCAA Division I Women's West Regional, held at the par-72, 6,289 yard Washington National Golf Club, Thursday.

The Nakhabino, Russia native fired 75 (+3) in the opening round, tying her in a knot for 30th. The senior Cougar sits three shots shy of breaking the top 10 and is seven shots out of the lead, currently held by Washington's Paige Mackenzie, who is currently ranked No. 8 by Golfweek. Just two shots back is freshman Amy Eneroth who fired a 77 (+5) and sits in a tie for 45th.

As a team, the Cougars finished the first round in 18th after shooting an opening round score of 320 (+32). Entering the second round, Pac-10 foes UCLA and Washington co-lead the 21-team field after firing an opening round 288 (E), while Montana rounds out the field in 21st, sitting 42-strokes out of the lead.

Freshman Haley Parsons fired a first round 82 (+10), to sit in a tie for 91st, while teammate Jessica Black sits in a tie for 98th. Sophomore Tracy Broders opened the tournament with a first round score 88 (+16) to round out the Cougar contingent.
