STANFORD, Calif. - Washington State senior Lorena Arias and junior Chris Martinez advanced to the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northwest Regional with an 8-2 win over Washington's Monika Kolbovic and Dinka Hadzic.
In consolation singles, Arias and No. 78 Orsolya Sallai each posted a pair of victories for the Cougars. Arias defeated Courtney Koenigsfeld from San Jose State 6-2, 6-2 before ousting Nicole Hunstock of St. Mary's, 6-1, 6-0.
Sallai gutted out a three set victory over Pacific's Viktoria Hizo. After dropping the first set 7-5, Sallai rallied to win the second set 7-5 and then won a 10-point tiebreaker 13-11. The junior added a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Kolbovic.
"We really proud of the way we bounced back after a tough day Friday," WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart said. "We played tremendous tennis."
