First Round Results.

Junior Kristen Allard shot a score of 75 to lead Washington State University during the first round of play Monday at the 2011 Bruin Wave Invitational.

Allard started strong as she was 2-under at the turn. She was even par through 16 before finishing her round at 3-over on the par-72, 6,282-yard Valley Course at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club.

As a team the Cougars ended the first day at 319 and in 14th place. Co-host UCLA finished Monday at 7-under par, 281, 11 strokes ahead of second-place Arizona.

Allard, who is tied for 21st, was followed in the Cougar lineup by sophomore Ali Thompson, who is tied for 57th after shooting an opening-round 80 (+8). Thompson's round included nine pars and a birdie on the par-3 seventh hole. One shot behind Thompson is freshman teammate Mallory Kent, who ended with an 81 (+9). Kent had eight pars and a lone birdie, coming on the par-5 fourth hole, as she finished the first day tied for 67th.

Sophomores Emma Betland and Ellen Park each fired an 83 Monday, tying them for 73rd. Betland began her round with back-to-back pars and was even-par after nine holes, but could not keep her momentum on the back nine. Park's lone birdie of the day came of the par-4 second hole, as she added seven pars for her round.

Playing as an individual was senior Allison Travis, who shot an 82 Monday. Travis, who had 11 pars and a birdie on her round, is tied for 69th.

The second round of the Bruin Wave Invitational begins Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. The first Cougar to tee off will be Ellen Park at 9:20 a.m.
