SPOKANE, Wash. - Donnie Murrell and Jason Uberuaga each drove home four runs as Gonzaga overcame a five-run deficit to hand visiting Washington State a 15-10 non-conference baseball loss Tuesday at August/A.R.T. Stadium.

The Bulldogs (11-13-1) broke the game open with eight runs in the seventh inning. Three of those runs came home on Murrell's bases- loaded double. With the bases loaded and two out, Gonzaga batters racked up seven consecutive hits, including four straight doubles, to score seven times and make a winner of Jason Sazama (2-0), the third of five pitchers used by Gonzaga. Uberuaga had a two-run home run in the fourth inning for GU.

WSU (2-23) collected 15 hits, but let a 5-0 first inning slip away late in the game. Shane Rice (0-1), the fourth of five WSU pitchers to see action, took the loss. Greg Mitchell hit his first home run for WSU, a three-run shot in the first inning, while Duane Stewart collected his fifth round trip blast of the season that gave the Cougs a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Cougars went right at Bulldog starter Troy Stoppa, who allowed seven hits and five runs before Charlie Zimmerman replaced him to start the third inning.

WSU then lost its scoring touch until Gonzaga forged into the lead 7-5 with a pair of runs in the fourth, three more to tie the game in the fifth, followed by a pair of runs in the sixth. Ray Hattenburg, who collected three hits for WSU, doubled to lead off the sixth and later scored as the Bulldogs turned a no-out double play. At that point WSU trailed 7-6.

After Gonzaga put an eight on the scoreboard in the seventh inning, WSU tried to rally in the ninth, scoring four times on a pair of walks and four hits, including run-producing singles by Duane Stewart, Curtis Robinson and Mitchell.

After Uberuaga's third home run of the year in the fourth, the Bulldogs collected five hits in the fifth to score three more runs and earn a tie with WSU. With two outs Murrell doubled home a run, Brendan Hare singled home a second and Uberuaga singled to send the final run of the inning home.

Gonzaga finally took the lead in the sixth, thanks to a double off the bat of Scott Asan and two walks and two hit batters by Cougar relief pitcher Todd Meldahl. With two out and the bases loaded, Hare walked to force home the go-ahead run and Tory Wulf was hit by a pitch to give the Bulldogs a 7-5 lead.

Washington State's next action will be Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Oregon State in the first Pacific-10 Conference North game of the season for both teams. The four-game weekend series will include a noon double header Saturday and a single game at 1:00 p.m. Sunday.
