STANFORD, Calif.-- The WSU women's tennis team concluded their fall season on a successful note with Elisabeth Fournier reaching the quarterfinal round Monday at the ITA Northwest Regional hosted by Stanford University.

Earlier in the day, six-seed Fournier defeated Tatsiana Kapshai of Sacramento State in the round of 16. Fournier then faced off with nine-seed Jenifer Widjaja of Pacific in the quarter final. After winning the first set 7-5, she then fell 3-6, 1-6.

Only one other Cougar tennis player has advanced past the quarterfinals. In 2000 Erica Perkins advanced to the semifinal round and lost. Fournier finished her fall season at 8-2.

Liudmila Vasilieva also played this morning in the round of 16, falling to 10-seed Pavlina Smatova of Oregon 6-4, 6-4. Her final fall record is 9-2.

Overall, the WSU women's tennis team was successful in their fall tournaments. Nine players finished with winning records. Marina Nicolas won the Crimson Singles title at the Cougar Classic, and Ksenia Googe finished second in the Gray bracket. The Cougars also brought home a doubles championship from Andjela Kankaras and Ksenia Googe in the Crimson Doubles bracket.

"I am very impressed with the progress our team has made this fall," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart. "I'm excited to see what our team is capable of in our upcoming dual match season. Our players are extremely competitive and driven which are important qualities have to be a successful team."
