PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State women's tennis team has been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for its academic achievement during the 2010-2011 season. Elisabeth Fournier, Jessica Gomez, and Andjela Kankaras were also honored by the ITA for their individual academic achievements.
During the 2010-11 season the Cougars earned a 3.28 team grade point average, tied for the top mark among WSU athletic programs.
To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must be a varsity letter winner, maintain a 3.5 GPA during the current season, and have been enrolled in their school for at least two semesters.
Fournier, an economic major, posted a 3.80 grade point average during the 2010-11 academic year. This was her third consecutive honor from the ITA. Gomez, a management information systems major who graduated in May, maintained a 3.82 GPA during her senior campaign. Gomez has also been honored the past three seasons.
Kankaras, a sophomore who earned a 3.65 GPA in 2010-11, is pursuing an international business degree at WSU.
The 2010-11 season marks the fifth consecutive year that the Cougar tennis team has been honored by the ITA for its academic achievements.
