Cougar Swimming Hosts Idaho for Senior Day

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University swim team will host the Idaho Vandals, Saturday, Feb. 5 at Gibb Pool...dual meet will begin at 11 a.m...event will mark the last home meet in the careers of seniors Jennifer Dean, Rugile Mileisyte and Talor Whitaker.

LAST TIME OUT: The Cougars are coming off a 156-106 win over Oregon State at Corvallis, Jan. 28...Talor Whitaker finished with individual wins in the 200 freestyle and 200 individual medley...Jennifer Dean and Rugile Mileisyte picked up individual wins in the 1000 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively.

AGAINST THE VANDALS: Washington State has already defeated the Vandals twice this year...first victory was a 125-80 victory in a dual meet at Moscow...second win came during a relay meet at Gibb Pool where the Cougars beat both the Vandals and the Redhawks of Seattle.

2009-10 RECAP: The Cougars went 2-4 last season with wins against Northern Arizona and Seattle...team finished the season with 11 WSU all-time top-10 performances and set two school records...senior Michaela Ahlin represented the Cougars at the NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive year.

2010-11 SQUAD: The squad returns 14 letterwinners including seniors Jennifer Dean, Rugile Mileisyte and Talor Whitaker...trio of senior leaders hold three individual school records, contributed to five relay records and 13 spots on the Cougars' all-time top-10 lists...team also welcomes nine newcomers this season.

COACHING STAFF: Head coach Erica Quam is in her ninth season at WSU...under Quam the Cougars have set 19 school records and earned 92 different spots on school's all-time top 10 lists...she is joined by assistant coach Lindsay Henahan and student assistant coach Jesse Grow...Henahan is in her third season while Grow is in his second.

NATIONAL GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY: Cougar Athletics is hosting National Girls and Women in Sports Day this Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at 10 a.m...clinic is in Bohler Gym and is open to girls from kindergarten through 12th grade...includes a sports clinic, lunch, a Q&A session and autograph session with Cougar student-athletes...clinic participants also have the opportunity to check out the final home Cougar swimming meet of the season as well as the Cougar women's basketball game (WSU vs. Oregon at 1 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum).
