SPOKANE, Wash. -- Washington State's J Hopkins and Joe Bartlett were double winners Saturday under very blustery and winter-like conditions at the Sam Adams Classic Meet at Whitworth University in Spokane.
Hopkins, a sophomore from Everett, won the men's 110m hurdles (15.65 seconds) and the 400m hurdles (56.01). Bartlett, a sophomore from Reno, won the men's shot put (54-2 1/2, 16.52m) and the discus (160-10, 49.02m).
The Cougar women won 10 events with two more victories going to a WSU athlete competing unattached. WSU women claiming wins Saturday and their marks were: Jacki Hill (400m, 58.22), Marisa Sandoval (800m, 2:20.87), Ashlee Wall (5000m, 18:27.26), Shaquana Logan (100m hurdles, 14.56w), Caroline Austin (3000m steeplechase, 11:36.75), 4x400m relay team (Jalisa Williams, Caroline Hedel, Brittnay Crabb, Logan, 4:17.06), Hilary Moore (pole vault, 10-11 3/4, 3.35m), Angela Jensen (long jump, 17-3 1/4w, 5.26m), Jasmine Johnson-McKeown (discus, 145-8, 44.4m), and Kjirsten Jensen (hammer, 176-2, 53.70m). Additionally, Morgan Clem, competing unattached, won the 100m dash (12.43w) and 200m dash (25.21w).
In all, WSU men won eight events at Whitworth. In addition to Hopkins and Bartlett, Cougar winners included: Stephan Scott-Ellis (100m, 10.96w), Wesley McCann (200m, 22.30w), Jason Stoker (800m, 1:58.54), and the 4x400m relay (Hopkins, André Jennings, McCann, Ryan Barrett, 3:24.91). Also, Andrew Gonzales, a Cougar competing unattached, won the 3000m steeplechase is a time of 9:38.88.
Next weekend the Washington State track and field teams will split again with some competing at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA, and the other team members will compete at the Washington versus Oregon, Idaho and Montana III at Spokane Falls Community College.
