STANFORD - The Washington State University women's tennis team continued play at the ITA Northwest Regional Sunday Oct. 23 at Stanford University's Taube Tennis Center.
In singles play, junior Liudmila Vasilieva defeated Olga Kirpicheva of Fresno State 6-0, 6-0. Julia Hansen of University of the Pacific took down freshman Anastasia Romantsova 6-3, 6-1. Hansen will face Vasilieva in the next round.
Junior Andjela Kankaras defeated Regina N. Suarez of University of the Pacific 7-6(4), 6-0 and is set to play Catherine Leduc of St. Mary's Monday. Freshman Charlotte Koning dropped her match to Annett Schutting of California 6-1, 6-2 and junior Ksenia Googe fell to Bianca Modoc of Fresno State 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles play, Googe/Romantsova defeated Knoebl/Lohscheidt of Sacramento State 8-6 and will play Hager/Skowronski of University of the Pacific in the consolation semifinals.
One other doubles team remains in play for Washington State, Kankaras/Koning defeated Modoc/Murtagh of Fresno State 8-4 in the quarterfinals. Kankaras/Koning will take on Kirpicheva/McQueen of Fresno State in the consolation semifinals.
Play continues tomorrow morning.
