Eugene, Ore.--- Returning to the Eugene Country Club on Tuesday after a disastrous first round 321, Washington State put together the sixth best score of the day with a second round 304.

Arizona snatched the team lead from Southern California and has a five-stroke advantage over the Trojans while USC's Mikaela Parmlid shot her way into a tie with first round leader Amanda Moltke-Leth in the individual race.

"We played alot tougher and much more confident," Cougar head coach Walt Williams said. "After the round, they were all laughing and joking. It feels good to know that you can play with the best."

Playing the second round with Oregon State, Williams felt his team was more comfortable than they were the previous day playing against number-one ranked Arizona. Sophomore Tasha Browner (Tarzana, Calif.) made the biggest improvement on day two, firing a 73 after a first round 82. She finished the day tied for 28th place. Junior Jennifer Dodd (Portland, Ore.) shot a 75 and moved three steps up the leader board into a tie for 15th. Dodd's two day total is a seven-over par 151.

Senior Jenny Ballou (Portland, Ore.) shot a second round 76 and moved from 45th to 38th in the standings in her fourth and final Pac-10 Championship. Freshmen Shanelle Roberts (Tacoma, Wash.) and Donna Bell (Prince George, BC) shot 80 and 83, respectively.

With the first round nerves behind them, Williams hopes that the final day of competition yields an even better result than the second.

"It was fun to go out there and beat Oregon State head-to-head," the second year head coach said. "We're only two back of Oregon State and nine back of Washington so those are probably the two teams we have a chance to beat."

The final round of golf begins with Washington State and Oregon State teeing off at 8:30 a.m.
