PULLMAN, Wash. --- Junior wide receiver Collin Henderson headed a list of five student-athletes from Washington State University to be named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Football Team.

Henderson, a native of Puyallup, used his 3.80 grade point average in Sport Management, and his nine catches for 83 yards and a touchdown this season to earn First Team honors, along with players like Joey Harrington of Oregon and Dennis Weathersby from Oregon State.

Joining Henderson on the Second Team were teammates Mark Baldwin, Drew Dunning, Serign Marong, and Jeremey Williams.

Baldwin, a Communication major from Brandon, Miss., has a 3.30 GPA and hauled in 11 passes for two touchdowns this season.

Dunning, also a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, was the Second Team selection at kicker after recording a 3.32 GPA in Communication. Dunning led Washington State in scoring with 86 points this season after connecting on 14 of 18 field goals and 44 of 48 point-after attempts.

Marong's 3.56 GPA in Biology earned him a spot on the Second Team alongside linebackers Jesse Busta of Utah State and Anthony Griffin of Eastern Washington.

Williams, a sophomore from Spokane, was selected to the District VIII team after racking up 27 tackles, including four for a loss, and posting a 3.26 GPA.

The team was voted on by CoSIDA members from within the District VIII states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and the province of British Columbia. The all-district first team selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released Dec. 10.
