PULLMAN, Wash.- The Washington State women's cross country team will travel to Missoula, Montana, Oct. 4, when the Grizzlies host the Montana Invitational at the UM Golf Course. The women's five-kilometer race starts at 10 a.m.

THE MONTANA INVITATIONAL: WSU will face off against Montana State, Gonzaga, Eastern Washington, Carroll, MSU-Billings and Rocky Mountain College. The race takes place on the University Golf Course.

WSU WOMEN: The Washington State women will send a team of 12 runners to the event led by junior captain Sara Trané and junior Lisa Egami. Chelsea VanDeBrake and Egami are the two lone returners to the Montana Invitational from the Cougars last visit in 2006.

COUGAR CROSS COUNTRY CONVERSATION WITH COACH DRAKE: Cougar Head Coach Jason Drake will conduct a brief meeting with all Cougar Cross Country family and friends in attendance at each competition this season. The meet and greet for the Montana Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. and Coach Drake will be at the Washington State team tent to talk over what he's looking for from the team at this meet and answer questions about Cougar Cross Country teams.

COACH DRAKES OUTLOOK FOR THIS WEEKEND: "I am pretty excited about this weekend," WSU Head Coach Jason Drake said. "We really want to break it down and focus on the individual battles of can our No. 1 beat their No. 1, and can our No. 2 beat their No. 2? We really want to work on breaking it down so that everyone will have someone that they are trying to beat and focus on competing against."

REGIONAL AND NATIONAL RANKINGS: In the Sept. 29, 2008 USTFCCCA Division I West Region polls the men's team moved up one spot and is ranked seventh while the women's team remains tenth. The Cougars men squad also received votes in the Sept. 30, 2008 USTFCCCA Division I National Rankings.

NEXT COMPETITION: The Cougar runners have a week off before the squad travels to Pre-Nationals at Terre Haute, Ind., Oct. 18. WSU will also send a second squad to Seattle, Wash., that same day to compete in the Northwest University Open.
