Final Stats | LCSC-WSU Highlights

PULLMAN - The Washington State University women's basketball team defeated Lewis-Clark State 76-58 in the team's season-opening exhibition game Sunday at Friel Court.

The Cougars forced 39 turnovers and recorded 26 steals, with three players each registering at least five. Freshman guard KiKi Moore had a game-high six steals, while sophomore guard Jazmine Perkins and redshirt freshman guard Katie Grad each added five.

"Exhibition games are always interesting because you don't know how your team is going to come out under the lights," WSU Head Coach June Daugherty said. "We want to be able to pressure for 40 minutes, so forcing the number of turnovers we did is a good indication that our players want be play our style this year and be committed to it."

Perkins also scored a game-high 19 points, leading a quartet of Cougars in double figures. Fellow sophomore guard April Cook scored 13 points, Moore added 12 and redshirt junior center Katie Madison recorded a double-double in her first action as a Cougar, scoring 11 points and pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds. Madison, who sat out last season after transferring from Idaho, pulled down 10 of her rebounds on the offensive end of the floor.

As a team the Cougars pulled down 56 total rebounds, 36 of which came on the offensive end.

Also seeing her first action with the Cougars was freshman center Carly Noyes, who blocked a game-high two shots.

LCSC's Lauren Daling took the opening tip and scored the game's first basket four seconds into the contest. On WSU's ensuing possession Perkins nailed a 3-pointer, kicking off an 8-0 run for the Cougars. WSU held the advantage for the remainder of the game, building as much as a 19-point lead.

The Cougars will play their second and final exhibition contest of the season Sunday (Nov. 8) against Eastern Oregon. Tip-off at Friel Court is slated for 2 p.m.
