PULLMAN, Wash.-- Washington State University freshman swimmers, Andree-Anne LeRoy and Sasha Taylor, have qualified to compete at the 2001 Canadian World Championship Trials, set for March 14-17, at the Kinsmen Sport Center in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

LeRoy, from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, will compete in the backstroke and individual medley events at the meet. This year, LeRoy broke the WSU school records in both the 400-yard and 200-yard individual medley events, with times of 2:03.53 and 4:24.16 respectively. She placed 11th in the 400 and 12th in the 200 at the Pacific-10 Conference Championships last month. LeRoy also holds second position on WSU's all-time list for the 200-yard backstroke (2:01.99) and fifth for the 100-yard backstroke (57.71). In addition, she swam the third leg of WSU's 400-yard freestyle relay team, which broke another school record and placed seventh at Pac-10's.

Taylor, from Smiths Falls, Ontario, Canada, will compete in the backstroke events, as well as the 50-meter butterfly. This season, Taylor moved her name into fourth place on WSU's all time list for the 200-yard backstroke at the Pac-10 Championships, while placing 18th with a time of 2:03.28. Taylor also clocked a season-best time of 58.90 seconds in the 100-yard backstroke at Pac-10's.
