Cougars Improve Following Second Round at Las Vegas Showdown

Sophomore Emma Betland continues to lead the Washington State University women's golf team following the second day of play Tuesday at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, hosted by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

As a team the Cougars completed the second round by shooting a 297 (+9), 12 strokes better than their opening day score. WSU sits in 17th place heading into Wednesday's final round.

Betland followed her opening day score of even par 72 with a 2-over 74 and is tied for 24th with a two-round score of 146. Teammate Kristen Allard improved on her first round total by posting a 1-over 73, the lowest score of the day for WSU. The junior is tied for 45 th with a two-day total of 149 (+5).

Senior Allison Travis fired a 75 (+3) in her second round, four strokes better than Monday's round and is tied for 75th at 154 (+10). Sophomore teammate Ali Thompson moved up two spots and is tied for 87th (157) after firing a 3-over 75, a seven-stroke improvement from Monday's opening round. Freshman Mallory Kent has a two-round total of 164 and is tied for 94th place after a shooting a second-round 79 (+7), six strokes better than her first round.

Sophomore Ellen Park is competing as an individual at the tournament and finished her second round with a 74 (+2), giving her a two-round total of 150 and in a tie for 51st.

Play concludes at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown Wednesday morning.
