WOODLAND, Calif. -- Twenty-one Washington State University student-athletes have been named to the 2011 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation 2011 Indoor Track & Field All-Academic Scholar-Athlete teams, Executive Director Al Beaird announced Tuesday. The criteria for selection includes: 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, be at least a sophomore academically, completed one full academic year at the institution prior to nomination, and must have competed in fifty percent of more of the institution's competition.
Seven Cougar men earned the academic honors: Justin Englund (3.94 GPA, sophomore, 5000m, Federal Way), Andrew Gonzales (3.41 GPA, redshirt freshman, 5000m, Kennewick), Andrew Kimpel (3.23 GPA, redshirt freshman, 3000m, Spokane), John Brenteson (3.20 GPA, redshirt freshman, pole vault, Vancouver, Wash.), J Hopkins (3.13 GPA, junior, 400m, Everett), Matthew Cronrath (3.06 GPA, sophomore, mile, Odessa), and Sean Harris (3.00 GPA, junior, heptathlon, Kent).
Fifteen WSU women were named to the MPSF All-Academic team: Chelsea VanDeBrake (4.00 GPA, graduate student, 5000m, Yakima), Ashlee Eskelsen (3.99 GPA, senior, 5000m, Walla Walla), Carly Fitzpatrick (3.74 GPA, sophomore, pole vault, Sumner), Holly Parent (3.64 GPA, sophomore, high jump, Victoria, B.C.), Cassie Whitfield (3.58 GPA, junior, weight throw, Spanaway), Hilary Moore (3.57 GPA, junior, pole vault, Prosser), Emily Farrar (3.52 GPA, redshirt sophomore, 3000m, Bainbridge), Amanda Stewart (3.49 GPA, junior, high jump, Federal Way), Ashley Kenney (3.39 GPA, junior, shot put, Spokane Valley), Courtney Zalud (3.27 GPA, sophomore, 800m, Colbert), Jacki Hill (3.25 GPA, junior, 400m, Bremerton), Christine Rice (3.23 GPA, sophomore, high jump, Ridgefield), Jalisa Williams (3.16 GPA, senior, 60m hurdles, Pasadena, Calif.), Shaquana Logan (3.15 GPA, sophomore, 60m hurdles, Tacoma), and Angela Jensen (3.05, senior, pentathlon, Tacoma).
