COUGARS HOME FOR INDOOR TRACK & FIELD TEAM SCORING MEET
The Cougar Indoor Team Scoring meet is set for Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27 and 28, in the Washington State Indoor Facility...teams from Idaho, Montana, UCLA and Utah State join Washington State for the scored meet...two-day meet includes men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon...team scoring will be 5-3-1 for individual events and 5-0 for relays...Friday's events includes all five women's pentathlon events, the first four men's heptathlon events, both men's and women's weight throws, and the men's long jump and pole vault...action gets underway at 2:30 p.m...remaining events begin Saturday at 9 a.m...spectators are admitted free of charge...free parking is available in Beasley Coliseum Yellow lot...complete results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following the meet's completion.
Being contested concurrently with the Cougar Indoor are the women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon...pentathlon consists of five events all contested on the same day: 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump and 800m run...men's heptathlon is comprised of seven events, split over two days: 60m dash, long jump, shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1000m run...pentathlon and heptathlon will not be counted in the team scoring.
ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 39th season with the Cougar track program; 18th year as a head coach, 17th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...Sloan (decathlon/heptathlon) is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell (throws), head coach for cross country Pete Julian (distance), and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald (hurdles/relays), Ellannee Richardson (sprints/relays) and Matt McGee (jumps)...volunteer coaches include Jeshua Anderson, Tim Riley and Wes McCann.
NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA has automatic qualifying standards for Indoor competition that can be found on the 2012 Indoor Bests Lists posted on the WSU website (www.wsucougars.com)...national descending order lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org).
COUGARS AMONG THE NATION'S TOP 50
WSU men in the TFRRS top 50 list this week include: Jacob Sealby, 400m (30th); Shawn Swartz, high jump (t-43rd); Stephan Scott-Ellis, triple jump (49th); and Joe Bartlett, shot put (48th)...there are currently no WSU women listed.
