Cougars Claim Five Firsts At Stanford Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. -- The Washington State University men's and women's track and field squads claimed a combined total of five firsts and two women had NCAA Provisional Qualifying performances during the second day of competition at the Stanford Invitational Meet, , Sunday.

Junior Arend Watkins ran a 13.85 to win the men's 110m high hurdles after clocking a legal-lifetime best of 13.73 seconds in the Saturday prelims.

Eric Dudley, sophomore, turned in a career-fastest time of 51.64 seconds to win the men's 400m hurdles.

Senior Ian Waltz threw the discus 191-9 for first place after finishing third in the shot put Saturday. Cougar teammate Cameron Graves threw a 168-9 mark for sixth in the discus.

Sophomore Randi Smith won the women's 400mhurdles in an NCAA PQ and school record time of 57.61 seconds. Smith was also the top collegiate finisher but second overall in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 13.72. Agneta Rosenblad and Attrina Higgins followed Smith for third and fourth in the 100m hurdles with times of 13.74 and 13.88, respectively. WSU's Autumn Wood ran a lifetime best of 62.01 in the 400m hurdles for seventh place.

The Cougar women's 4x100m relay team of Attrina Higgins, LaTroya Mucker, Sharika Higgins and Francesca Sewell, won that event with a time of 45.28.

Alishia Booterbaugh was the top collegiate runner but third overall in the women's 800m race, clocking in at 2:05.66, a lifetime best for the senior. Teammate Lisa Schaures was 10th in a personal best time of 2:10.63.

Nearly 1000 collegians and elite club competitors participated in the prestigious two-day meet held at Cobb Track & Angell Field on the Stanford campus.

The Washington State track and field teams will be competing at home, at Mooberry Track on the WSU campus, for the next two weekends. The Cougars host Washington and Idaho in co-ed dual meet action, Saturday, April 1, and the Palouse Team Invitational with Utah State Saturday, April 8.
