OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) - An NCAA committee has recommended that the Division I women's basketball championships be played in Atlanta in 2003 and in New Orleans in 2004.

The Final Four site selections, announced Tuesday by the Division I Women's Basketball Committee, await approval later this week by the Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet.

Other cities considered for the 2003 and 2004 women's finals were Charlotte, N.C., Detroit and Memphis, Tenn., the NCAA said.

In Atlanta, the 2003 Final Four will be played April 4 and April 6 in the Georgia Dome, which will be configured to seat anywhere from 24,000 to 36,000. Georgia Tech will be the host for the championships, which were last held in Atlanta in 1993.

Tulane will host the 2004 women's Final Four, to be played April 2 and April 4 in the 18,500-seat New Orleans Sports Arena. The event was also held in New Orleans in 1991.

The NCAA earlier announced the First Union Center in Philadelphia as the site of the 2000 women's Final Four, the Kiel Center in St. Louis for 2001 and San Antonio's Alamodome for 2002.
