PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior Lindsay Henahan received the most outstanding award at the Washington State swimming banquet, April 12. The award highlighted the annual postseason event.

Henahan finished 16th in the 100 butterfly at the NCAA Championships, becoming WSU's first All-American since 1999. The Rochester, N.Y., native set the WSU record in the 100 butterfly in December, then bettered it at the Pacific-10 Championships with a fifth place finish and NCAA automatic qualifying time of 53.75. She set pool records this season at WSU's Gibb Pool as well as at Steven's Natatorium at Oregon State.

"She never lost sight of what she wanted to accomplish throughout the whole season," Quam said. "I'm just glad that she had the opportunity."

Senior Sara Schmied was given the Cougar Award for exemplifying what it means to be a Cougar and serving as an inspiration for her teammates.

"She always gave 100 percent in workouts and races, dry land, weights, whatever," Quam said. "I realized this early on and tried to make her not try quite so hard."

Karen Eldred was awarded the strength and conditioning award in her first year at WSU. The award was chosen by Jackson Coots, WSU Strength and Conditioning Coach.

"Eldred is a tough competitor," Quam said. "She works hard in every aspect of this sport, in the weight room and in the pool."

The team voted freshman Andrea Lubeck most improved for her consist improvement over the course of the season in her races and workouts. Outside of the pool, Lubeck's 4.0 grade point average earned her the team's academic award.

"For Andrea to come in as a freshman, adjust to the demands of training with and competing on a Division I swim team, and to excel to such a high level in the classroom is a tremendous accomplishment," Quam said.
