CATS VERSUS DAWGS THIS SATURDAY AT MOOBERRY TRACK: The 95th meeting of the Washington State University and University of Washington men's track and field teams and 31st meeting between women's teams will take place Saturday, April 29, at Mooberry Track...according to WSU records, the WSU men hold the advantage in the dual series with a 60-33-1 record...UW women have an 19-11 lead in the dual dueling, but the Cougar women have won eight of the past nine meetings with the Huskies winning in 2004...last year in Seattle, the Cougar women defeated UW 111-92, while the Husky men were 110.5-92.5 winners over Cougars...using season-best lists and past performances, the 2006 meet is predicted to finish with a 113-90 WSU win on the women's side and a 106-97 UW win on the men's side...field events begin Saturday at 11 a.m. and the running events commence at 1:15 p.m...ADMISSION IS FREE...heat sheets will be posted at www.wsucougars.com Thursday, April 27 by noon...complete results will be posted upon meet completion at the same site.

DUAL MEET SCORING: Individual scoring for the WSU-UW dual meet will be 5-3-2-1 for individual events and 5-3 for relays...for a complete meet event schedule, go to www.wsucougars.com.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 33rd season with the Cougar track program; 12th year as a head coach, 11th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Jason Drake (Head Coach Cross Country), Mark Macdonald, Ellannee Richardson and Matt McGee...volunteer coach Andrea Thornton returns for her third year with the program...coaches Farwell, Macdonald, Richardson, McGee and Thornton all competed for WSU.

NATIONAL POLLS: The WSU women's team is ranked 21st in the April 24 Trackwire Top 25 Team rankings... Cougar men's team is unranked...Washington men are ranked 19th and women are unranked...teams holding top rankings this week are Texas women and Florida State men...USC (t4th) is the top Pac-10 women's team ranked as are Arizona's men (6th)...Trackwire 25 projects a hypothetical score for the NCAA meet, factoring in injury reports and other variables supported by information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country...this projection is generated by scoring the Dandy Dozen, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event...three Cougs are included in Trackwire Online's Dandy Dozen lists, a power ranking of the top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event...WSU women ranked include Julie Pickler (4th heptathlon), Diana Pickler (6th heptathlon), and Tamara Diles (6th pole vault)...neither WSU team nor Washington's teams are ranked in the April 18, 1006 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 20 polls.

THEY'RE BACK...As of Tuesday, April 25, WSU All-American pole vaulter Tyson Byers and triple jumpers Kaylee Gardner and Martin Boston are expected to compete this weekend.

INTO THE RECORD BOOKS: Three Cougars climbed into the WSU all-time record books last weekend at the Cougar Invitational...Tamara Diles (senior, Bellevue, Wash.) broke her own pole vault record with a clearance at 13-11 1/4 (4.25m)...in the men's discus freshman Matt Lamb (Emmett, Idaho) threw 187-7 (59.17m) which is seventh-best and Drew Ulrick (junior, Spokane) threw 185-8 (56.59m) which is ninth-farthest in WSU history.

NO QUALIFYING MARKS NEEDED FOR PAC-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS: This is the second year the Pacific-10 Conference will forego its own set of qualifying marks for its championship meet...instead, a maximum of 24 women and 24 men may be entered from each school at the head coach's discretion...outdoor and indoor seasons will be used for descending order lists and seeding into the championship heats/flights.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL COUGAR THROWERS CAR WASH: Throwers from the Washington State University track and field team raised over $2000 at their fourth annual car wash Sunday, April 23...money raised will assist with the costs of Cougar teammate Eric Nygard's medical expenses. WRISTBANDS FOR NYGARD: The WSU Track & Field teams are selling wristbands for senior hurdler Eric Nygard (Wenatchee, Wash.)...Nygard, a scorer in the 400m hurdles at the 2005 Pac-10 Championships, was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2005...Eric is married and has an infant daughter...wristbands are black with a quote from Charles Beard, selected by Nygard, in yellow lettering, "When it's dark enough, you can see the stars" and his initials, E.N...cost is $5 (medium and large)...to purchase a wristband, contact Cougar assistant coach Ellannee Richardson at 509-335-4730...a benevolent account has been established at Washington Mutual Bank under his name for donations to assist with medical expenses and can be made at any WaMu branch.

WICCCA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAMS: Cougar sophomore All-American Haley Paul (Phoenix) had the 10th-best grade point average (3.930) among cross country Div. I women and was honored by the Women's Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association as an Academic All-American...the WSU women's cross country team had a GPA of 3.399 and were among the top 60 women's teams in the nation.
