PULLMAN, Wash. --- The Washington State football team popped up again in a pair of preseason polls, tabbed No. 6 in The Sporting News and No. 7 in the initial Grantland Rice Super 16.
TSN also picked Ohio State (No. 10), Washington (No. 12), USC (No. 18), and Oregon (No. 20) among the top 25. WSU will face all four teams in 2002, with the Huskies, Trojans, and Ducks coming to Pullman.
TSN's college football preview issue, which hits stands Monday, August 19, also features a full-page photo of Cougar quarterback Jason Gesser and an accompanying article.
The Football Writers Association of America's Grantland Rice Super 16 slotted WSU in the No. 7 spot, three spots ahead of cross-state rival Washington (No. 10) and five ahead of Ohio State (No. 12). The Cougars were selected in 15 of 16 writer's polls in the Super 16.
The Cougars are coming off a 10-2 season capped by a victory in the Sun Bowl over Purdue and begin the 2002 campaign in Seattle against Nevada Aug. 31.
