PULLMAN, Wash. - Led by the individual wins of Oscar Franco-Parra and Ryan Gilmore, the Washington State University men's and women's cross country teams swept the WSU Invitational Saturday.

Oscar Franco-Parra's third straight victory in as many races this year, led the Cougar men to dual meet wins over both Idaho and Eastern Washington. The win by Franco-Parra came in impressive fashion, as he finished over forty seconds ahead of the second place runner. Running in his first race of the year, sophomore Jon Welsh finished fifth. Welsh, who is attending WSU on an Army ROTC scholarship, is just getting back into his training after attending parachute camp in Georgia this summer. Also running well for the Cougars was sophomore Kyle Barker who finished in the top three for his second straight race.

"Oscar needs to run keep running like he did today," said WSU coach James Li after the race. "He is on his way to a breakthrough."

The Cougar men beat Idaho by a score of 22 to 34, and beat Eastern Washington 19 to 42.

Ryan Gilmore's first win of her college career pushed the Cougar women to victory over a strong Idaho team. Also leading WSU were senior Alishia Booterbaugh in third, and All-American Megan Maynard who finished fifth.

"Ryan has improved so much this season," said Li. "This win did a lot to boost her confidence."

The WSU women edged Idaho by a score of 26 to 31, and defeated Eastern Washington 19 to 38.

WSU heads across the state to take part in the Sundodger Invitational in Seattle next Saturday.
