AUSTIN, Texas - The Washington State University swim team earned four finals heat victories during the third and final day of the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix, Sunday.

The relay team of Rugile Mileisyte, Talor Whitaker, Emma Johansson and Jennifer Dean edged out Southern Methodist to earn a Cougar victory in the 400 medley relay. The finish marked the second WSU relay win of the competition, combining with the 800 freestyle relay.

Mileisyte also competed in the championship final of the 100 freestyle, where she took seventh place with a time of 57.59 seconds. It was the second event of the meet in which Mileisyte competed with the "A" finalists; she placed sixth in the 50 freestyle, Saturday.

Fellow co-captain Whitaker joined Shelbi Luchini in the finals session of the 200 individual medley. Whitaker finished 17th overall, winning the "C" final and dropping nearly four seconds from her morning time. Luchini finished first in the "E" final after improving her time by more than five seconds.

The Cougars received another heat victory from junior Danielle Palumbo in the 200 back "E" final. The Sammamish, Wash., native was also five seconds faster than her preliminary swim, finishing in 2:21.29. Freshman Emily Fenster made her first finals appearance of the meet, taking fourth place in the "E" final.

A pair of seniors qualified for the "D" final of the 100 freestyle, Sunday, as Dean and Whitaker finished third and fifth, respectively.

The WSU swim team will be back in action, Friday, Jan. 28, when they play host to 2009-10 WAC champion Boise State. Competition will start at 5:00 p.m., at Gibb Pool.
