Women's Cross Country Seventh, Men 11th at NCAA West Regionals

Fresno, Calif.-- Washington State's women captured seventh and the men 11th at the NCAA West Region Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif., Saturday.

Junior Ryan Gilmore (Seattle, Wash.) led the women's team which finished just one point behind sixth place Cal Poly State. Gilmore placed 14th in a time of 20:56, just over 30 seconds off the pace of race-winner Lisa Aguilera. Behind Gilmore, seniors Megan Maynard and Alishia Booterbaugh finished 26th and 31st respectively. Other Cougar finishers include sophomore Greta Johnson in 65th, freshman Anna Blue 67th, junior Jenny Filipy 78th, and freshman Ana Cabrera 123rd. The WSU women's seventh-place finish is an improvement from last year where they placed ninth.

Stanford's women won in the meet, with seven Pac-10 teams placing in the top 8.

Oscar Franco-Parra, a junior from Beaverton, Ore., led the men's team with his 22nd-place finish. Franco-Parra was the top finisher for the Cougar men in seven out of the eight races this season. Also for WSU's men, sophomore Jon Welsh placed 50th, sophomore Kyle Barker 73rd, junior Scott Johnson 78th, and freshman Jim Neeway 114th.

Stanford claimed victory in the men's meet as well, with Jonathon Riley winning the race.
