Washington State Quotes

Head Coach Ken Bone:

On the exhibition game...
"The key things we were looking for tonight were to execute some things we were working on the last month on both ends of the court, to get guys some minutes that have never played here in a game situation, and third to try and stay injury-free because we were kind of banged up heading into tonight. I think we accomplished all three."

On the newcomers...
"All-in-all I thought our kids that have not played here before did a good job. Like you just mentioned; Dexter, Mike, DaVonté, D.J. did some good things. I think we made some strides tonight."

"It can help to give them some minutes and give them some experience. We know what Abe, Faisal and Reggie can do. We need to find out what some of these other guys can do in game situations and tonight helped us evaluate them."

On feeling prepared for Gonzaga...
"They're too good to feel prepared for at this point. We'll go in there and do the best we can but we know what we are up against. You need more than a scrimmage and an exhibition game against Lewis-Clark State to prepare you for Gonzaga. We will work hard and prepare ourselves best we can and see what we can do."

Junior Guard Mike Ladd:

On playing after sitting out last year...
"It felt pretty good. Last year was a long year for me, having to sit out and watch my teammate play their hearts out, out there, but it felt pretty good."

On the newcomers...
"I thought they did pretty well, especially DaVonté. He was attacking pretty well. With Reggie out he did pretty well running point."

On what the team needs to do...
"Just keep the intensity and our hard work on the defensive end. I think we rebounded pretty well today, just our work ethic."

Freshman Guard DaVonté Lacy

On what he'll take away from the game...
"I don't really want to take away anything offensively because defense wins championships and that's what we want. I want to just focus on defense as a team and individually. I need to move my feet faster, slide into the gaps. As a team we just need to have good help side. I think we did tonight and I hope we can continue that throughout the season."

Junior Forward Brock Motum

On the team's strengths...
"I think all across the board we've worked hard this offseason. I think our guards are our main strength this year. They played really well tonight, DaVonté, Mike. Once we get all our guards back we'll be really good."
