Beavers Splash Into Pullman For Dual Meets With Cougars

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's swim team hosts Oregon State University, Friday, Jan. 30 and Saturday, Jan. 31...the Cougars face off against the Beavers in two dual meets with Friday's meet beginning at 6 p.m....Saturday's kicks off at 11 a.m. in Gibb Pool...the meets against OSU mark the third consecutive home meet weekend of the season for WSU.

"Oregon State is a really tough and talented team," WSU Head Coach, Erica Quam said. "It's going to be a great opportunity to race against Pac-10 Competition."

LAST WEEK: Washington State hosted Nevada, Saturday, Jan. 24...the Cougars fell to the Wolf Pack, 138-122 in dual meet action...freshman Monika Povilonyte led the way for WSU with wins in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes.

COACH QUAM: WSU Head Coach Erica Quam is in her second season as the women's swimming coach.

AGAINST THE BEAVERS: The Cougars are 26-12 against the Beavers...the two teams have met six times in the last three seasons with WSU winning four...Oregon State defeated Washington State in both meets last season at Corvallis.

WSU SENIORS: the three Washington State senior swimmers will be honored prior to Saturday's meet...Nicole Chinn, Theresa Dunn, and Sasha Taylor have each been with WSU since 2000.

THIS SEASON: The Cougars added 11 newcomers to the 10 returning letter winners...WSU currently has a record of 1-6 in dual meets this season...the Cougars are 0-3 in Pac-10 competition.

ACADEMICS: WSU finished third in the nation academically spring semester 2003 (3.5).

UP NEXT: The Cougs wrap up their homestand next weekend...Washington State hosts Simon Fraser and Central Washington University Friday, Feb. 6 at 6 p.m. in Gibb Pool.
