HONOLULU - At day two of the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational, the Washington State University women's tennis team won five singles and three doubles matches.
In the round-robin style tournament, the Cougars took on the Wildcats of Kentucky in singles play. Junior Liudmila Vasilieva defeated Jessica Stiles in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1at the top spot. At No. 2 singles, senior Elisabeth Fournier took down Caitlin McGraw 6-1, 6-4.
Junior Andjela Kankaras fell to Khristina Blajkevitch 6-4, 6-1 and in No. 4 singles, freshman Elizaveta Luzina was defeated by Stephanie Fox 6-1, 6-3. The Cougars finished with a sweep in the last three matches of the day. Junior Ksenia Googe defeated Edmee Morin in three sets, 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 and freshman Anastasia Romantsova took down Cece Witten 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Kankaras played a second singles match and defeated Lyndsey Pickett in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
In doubles play against Kansas, the Cougars won all three matches. In the top doubles pairing, Vasilieva and Luzina defeated the nation's 42nd-ranked team of Monica Pezzotti and Paulina Los, 8-3. Freshman Charlotte Koning and Kankaras defeated Dylan Windom and Claire Dreyer 8-6, at No. 2.
Sophomore Olga Musilovich and Fournier took down Victoria Khanevskaya and Amy Barnthouse 8-1, at No. 3.
The Cougars will return to action Saturday for the third and final day of the invite.
