Cougars Place Five on Pac-10 All-Academic Tennis Teams

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior Elisabeth Fournier and senior Jessica Gomez were named to the 2011 Pacific-10 Women's Tennis Academic First Team, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced recently. Three other Cougars, senior Marina Nicolas and sophomores Ksenia Googe and Andjela Kankaras, received honorable mention honors.

A native of Ottawa, Canada, Fournier carries a 3.87 grade point average as an economics major. She was also a first team Pac-10 All-Academic selection last season.

Gomez is a native of Guadalupe, Mexico and has a 3.61 GPA as a management information systems major. She was a second-team pick last season.

Nicolas, from Zaragoza, Spain, boasts a 3.40 GPA as a civil engineering major while Googe (Sochi, Russia) carries a 3.25 GPA and Kankaras (Niksic, Montenegro) a 3.29 GPA. Both have yet to declare majors.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be a starter or significant contributor.
