PROVO, Utah -- The Washington State women's tennis team completed its final day of competition Saturday by winning six out of eight matches played.
Cougar standout Orsolya Sallai, ranked No. 78 in singles, solidified a fifth-place finish by capturing a win over Weber State's Alexandra Ilie, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
WSU freshman Amy Toth fell to fourth place in the No. 1 singles bracket after being defeated in three sets by Emily Kirchem of Colorado State, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
In No. 2 singles action, senior Lorena Arias was defeated by Boise State's Erin Polowski, 6-3, 6-3.
WSU junior Nora Gaal battled to receive a third-place finish in No. 3 singles after defeating Colorado State's Charity Malone, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5.
Junior Chris Martinez owned the No. 4 singles bracket, remaining undefeated in singles play as she knocked off Rebecca Pike of Brigham Young for the title, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
"Chris's match was three hours long and she battled hard to come from behind and win," said WSU Head Coach Lisa Hart.
Senior Zorana Roganovic also added a win to her perfect season. Roganovic won her sixth straight match against Nicole Schneider of Brigham Young, 6-0, 6-3, to capture the No. 5 singles title.
Competing in the No. 6 singles bracket, Cougar Zsofia Fodor was flawless in her defeat of Utah State's Andrea Hansen 6-0, 6-0. The win put Fodor in third place and gave her five wins on the season.
Cougar freshman Nelly Dvornicka knocked off Utah's Rachel Alder (6-1, 6-2) to secure a fifth-place finish in No. 6 singles play.
"Everyday the team got better and stronger," Coach Hart said. "Today was definitely our best day."
In doubles competition that was completed Friday, WSU dynamic duo and No. 40 ranked Arias/Martinez lost in the semifinals round to Boise State's Hayward/Polowski (8-6) but later defeated teammate's Toth/Sallai (8-6) for a third-place finish.
Cougars Fodor/Gaal won two consecutive matches Friday to capture the title in No. 2 singles competition. In the semifinals round, Fodor/Gaal defeated Boise State's Ayling/Biorkman 9-7, and in the title match they knocked off Brigham Young's MacFarlane/Schneider, 8-6.
The freshman-senior tandem of Dvornicka/Roganovic beat Boise State's Curtolo/Koprivica, 9-8(5) in the semifinals then went on to lose to Jones/Rebecca Pike of Brigham Young, 8-1.
