CORVALLIS, Ore. - Five Oregon State players scored in double figures as the Beavers earned a 72-52 win over the Cougars in a Pac-10 women's basketball game, Thursday night.
Oregon State (6-10, 2-2 Pac-10), which won for the second straight outing, opened the game with a 21-4 run. Cherrith Wiersma scored all 11 of her points during the stretch, including a trio of three-point baskets.
The Cougars (3-12, 0-5 Pac-10) lost for the seventh straight game and has now lost eight consecutive Pac-10 road games dating back to last season.
WSU followed the Beavers opening burst with a 14-0 run to close to within 21-18 led by senior Jen Kerns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) who had five of her team-high 13 points during the rally.
Oregon State increased its lead to 33-22 at halftime and opened the second stanza with a 19-3 run to take a 52-25 lead with 13:09 to play.
Sissel Pierce contributed eight of her 10 points during the opening surge of the second half and the Beavers coasted to the victory from that point.
"They (the Beavers) had a good night," WSU Head Coach Jenny Przekwas said. "I don't want to take away from them, but I didn't think we played very well."
WSU travels to Eugene to take on Oregon, Saturday at 7 p.m.
