COUGARS SET FOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Five women and two men from the Washington State University track and field team will compete in six different events at the Men's 81st Annual and Women's 21st Annual NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships Wednesday through Saturday, May 29 - June 1, at Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the Louisiana State University campus at Baton Rouge...scoring for all events is 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1...Whitney Evans is back for her third outdoor national meet after finishing third in the high jump last year...Ellannee Richardson is making her third outdoor championships appearance in the heptathlon after fourth place finishes in 1999 and 2001...Cicely Clinkenbeard sees her fourth outdoor championships in the triple jump...her highest finish was 11th in 2000...Randi Smith will compete in her third NCAA outdoor meet (2000, 2001) in the 400m hurdles with plans to advance from the preliminary heats...Anna Blue will see her first NCAA-level competition...after the declarations moved her from 28th to the 19th and final 5000m runner in the women's race...Anson Henry has competed in two NCAA Indoor Championships but makes his debut in the outdoor meet in the 100m dash...joining Henry will be Anthony Buchanan in his second consecutive national meet 100m dash competition...Buchanan advanced to the semifinals in 2001...Henry did not declare to compete in the men's 200m dash and Clinkenbeard chose not to declare in the heptathlon...the Cougar men's 400m relay team, tied for 13th nationally, just missed the final cut of 12 teams for the championships...likewise, senior decathlete Steve Dwyer, was 22nd on the list and 19 were chosen.
