Cougars Score Top Five Finish at Spartan Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. - The Washington State women's golf team scored one of its best finishes this year placing fifth at the Spartan Invitational with a 54-hole total of 954 (318-321-308) on the Laguna Seca Golf Course in Seaside, Calif..

Senior Stefanie Coleman (Tacoma, Wash.) shot a three-round total of 229 (73-79-77) to finish seventh among the nation's best collegiate women's golfers. Coleman, who is ranked No. 209 in the nation and climbing, finished five strokes behind the tournament champion Niina Laitinen of Tulsa (69-78-77---224). Laitinen is currently No. 7 in the latest national rankings.

Senior Jenny Ballou and sophomore Jennifer Dodd, both of Portland, Ore., achieved top-20 finishes for the three-day tournament. Ballou tied for 16th with a 239 (80-84-75). Dodd ended the tournament tied for 18th with a three-round total of 240 (81-84-75).

University of Tulsa took home the team title with an overall score of 910 (306-306-298). Other Pacific-10 conference schools in the tournament were Arizona State finishing second with a 941 (316-306-306) and California taking 8th with a 986 (341-323-322).

The Cougars' next stop is the Utah-Dixie Classic April 5-6 at Provo, Utah hosted by Brigham Young University.
