PULLMAN, Wash. - Former Washington State University center Zack Williams was selected in the sixth round of the 2011 National Football League Draft by the Carolina Panthers, Saturday.
Williams was the 38th pick in the sixth round, and the 203rd overall selection in the draft.
A two-year letterwinner with the Cougars after transferring from Glendale College prior to the 2008 campaign, Williams anchored WSU's offensive line as a senior, starting all 12 games. Following last season he earned All-Pacific-10 Conference honorable mention honors and received the Mike Utley Award at the Cougar Football Banquet, signifying the offensive lineman of the year.
Williams is the first Cougar to be drafted since Brandon Gibson was a sixth-round selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. The last time a WSU offensive lineman was drafted was Calvin Armstrong in the 2005 NFL Draft, also selected in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles.
