COUGARS OPEN INDOOR SEASON HOSTING WSU OPEN MEET
Washington State University's indoor track and field teams open the 2011 indoor season with the Ninth Annual WSU Indoor Open...WSU Indoor Facility's Mondo track features racing at 60m, 200m, 400m, mile, 800m and 3000m with 60m hurdles as well as a co-ed 4x400m relay...jumping and throwing field events will be contested on the turf inside the oval...men's 35-pound and women's 20-pound weight throws take place Friday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m...remaining field events will begin Saturday, Jan. 15, at 8:30 a.m. with running events set to start at 10 a.m...complete results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following the meet's completion.

All competitors are to register online no later than 5 p.m., Jan. 11 at www.DirectAthletics.com for a $10 entry fee...late entries will be charged an additional $10 for signing up the day of the meet...spectators are admitted free of charge for all WSU Track & Field competition in 2011.
ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES
Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 38th season with the Cougar track program; 17th year as a head coach, 16th year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...Sloan (decathlon/heptathlon) is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell (throws), head coach for cross country Pete Julian (distance), and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald (hurdles/relays), Ellannee Richardson (sprints/relays) and Matt McGee (jumps)...volunteer coaches include Bob Frey, Brett Josephson, Anthony Luna, Tim Riley, and Rob Williams.
COUGAR INDOOR INVITATIONAL ON TAP
The Cougar Indoor Invitational meet will take place Jan. 21-22 in the IPF...men's and women's teams from University of Idaho, Utah State, and University of Montana will join Washington State in the two-day scoring meet that includes a men's heptathlon and women' pentathlon...for complete schedule of events, go to www.wsucougars.com...no charge for spectators.

NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA has automatic qualifying standards for Indoor competition that can be found on the 2011 Indoor Bests Lists posted on the WSU website (www.wsucougars.com)...national descending order lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org).
WSU OPEN INDOOR 2010 CHAMPIONS BACK IN ACTION AT 2011 MEET
Four women and three men who won events at the 2010 WSU Indoor Open will be competing at the 2011 WSU Open to defend their titles as members of the Cougar team...women's winners include: Chanel James (60m dash), Amanda Andrews (800m but running 400m in 2011), Emily Farrar (3000m but running mile in 2011), Cassie Whitfield (weight throw)...men's winners were: Brett Blanshan (60m dash), Andrew Kimpel (mile but running 800m in 2011), and Deonta Edwards (high jump)...Chanel James and Deonta Edwards competed for Spokane CC in 2010 but are Cougars for the 2011 season.
