THIS WEEK: The Cougars will travel to Provo, Utah, to compete in the BYU Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
LAST WEEK: The Cougars took home two championship titles, one doubles and one singles, from the Roberta Alison Classic hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
Freshman Anna Dybicz (Jonknping, Sweden) captured the I singles draw title by defeating Jayne Hutchinson of Troy State 6-1, 6-2. Dybicz posted a 3-0 record for the Cougars.
Senior captain Tamara Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia) and freshman Stacy McKenna (North Bend, Ore.) teamed up to capture the doubles title for WSU by defeating second seed duo of Geme and McCoy from Alabama State 8-2 in the final match of the D doubles draw.
COACH GROCE ON LAST WEEKEND'S PERFORMANCE: I am really happy with the team's play. They are working hard to improve their singles game. It is encouraging to see them working so hard to get their game back into top form. Each match was a lot better and the girls played with a lot more confidence. I am really excited about where they are now.
ARIAS INJURIED: Freshman Lorena Arias (Tlalnepantla, Mexico) injured her right knee shortly before coming to WSU. She was not able to make the trip with the team last due to the injury.
GROCE ON ARIAS' RETURN: We are anxious to get Lorena back into the line-up. It is difficult to form doubles teams when a strong doubles player, who is predicted to play high in the line-up, gets injured. She has been working all weekend, and we expect to know this week if she will be making the trip to Utah this weekend.
NEXT WEEK: The Cougars will host the 2000 Cougar Invitational October 6-7 at the Martin Stadium Tennis Center.
