Four Cougar Swimmers Named to All-Academic First Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Seven members of the Washington State University women's swimming team were recognized for their academic accomplishments, Tuesday, when conference commissioner Larry Scott announced the 2011 Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic Teams.

Four Cougar swimmers were named to the Pac-10 all-academic first team, including junior Melissa Bogert (mechanical engineering, 3.75) who is a first-team selection for the second consecutive season. Joining Bogert on the first team are seniors Jennifer Dean (political science, 3.54) and Talor Whitaker (communication, 3.58), as well as sophomore sophomore Shelbi Luchini (undeclared, 3.76), each of whom earned their first appearance on the All-Pac-10 First Team. WSU was tied for the second-most represented school on the first team behind Stanford, which had five swimmers named.

Junior Jessie Craig, a psychology major, earned a 3.43 grade point average and was named to the all-academic second team.

Juniors Sarah Hicks and Rachael Krager, were recognized with honorable mentions.
