PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Mike Bush had career highs with 15 points and 10 rebounds as Washington State beat Idaho 70-65 on Saturday.
Idaho (1-2) benched all five of its normal starters at the beginning of the game for a disciplinary action that coaches refused to discuss. The starters were all inserted into the game later.
But Washington State (2-1) scored the first 11 points of the game, and led 32-24 at halftime.
Idaho pulled to within two points, trailing 43-41 with 13:45 left in the game. Washington State scored the next nine points to open the game up again.
Jan-Michael Thomas led the Cougars with 24 points, 14 in the first half. Guard Blake Pengelly had nine assists for the Cougars.
Idaho was led by Gordon Scott with 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Clifford Gray and Devon Ford each scored 12 points for Idaho.
Washington State shot just 37 percent for the game, while Idaho shot just 35 percent.
Washington State leads the long-running series between Palouse neighbors by 150-105.
